International Girls’ in ICT Day is an initiative backed by ITU Member States in ITU Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Guadalajara, 2010) to create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies (ICTs).
International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year and this year it will be observed on 24 April 2014. A day where we focus on encouraging girls and empower them to use, study and choose a career in ICT. It is important that technology is available to all, and especially that it is available to women, as in most developing societies they are the pillars of the family. Enabling them to use and be empowered by technology, we empower the family, and gradually the whole community.
The future of the ICT is exciting and with all the new multimedia technology; the continuing evolution of social media; and a globally connected world ICT underpins this future.
